How do I let others in my office share the information on my computer?

Windows 2000

1. Double click on My Computer

2. Select the drive/folder you wish to share. ( In most cases people find it easier to share the drive from the top/root of the drive. But you can also share a single folder if you prefer. Or you can do both.)

3. Right mouse click on the selected drive/folder and select Properties from the pop up window. A new Properties window will open.

4. Select the Sharing tab at the top of the window.

5. Make sure the Share this folder radio button is selected. Click on the New Share button. A new window will pop up.

6. Enter the name you wish to call this share (i.e.. C drive, Documents, or whatever you chose). The comment box is optional. This comment is displayed when you use my network places.

7. Click OK and there you go! You have completed the creation of a new share on your computer. In the Properties window you can click OK and that will close that window as well.

Note: The default settings for a share allows everyone on the network to make changes( i.e.. delete/add/change files). If you have more sensitive information that you may not want everyone to see, you will need to change the security on the share. If you are not comfortable with doing this yourself, we would be happy to help. Feel free to give us a call and we'll set up an appointment.
